Since 1991, Michael Hochstetler started designing better gripping pens due to calluses formed on his fingers (from stick-thin pens and pencils). Starting with soap bars and wood, Michael developed his first pen with spiral grooves that gave a better surface contact and reduced gripping pressure. Michael went on to develop the Michael's Fat Boy collection of pens, crafted from durable material such as U.S.A. aircraft quality billet aluminum.
